With 32 water villas in addition to 29 island rooms, the Viceroy Maldives Resort ushers in a new type of style and ultra-luxury for the Maldives. The Los Angeles-based Viceroy chain has a great reputation for modern luxury and even this private-island resort fits right in.
Even the smaller water villas is enormous, and all have private pools on the sundecks, so this is an ideal choice for couples who want the best of everything. The Deluxe Water Villas are even larger, but the most interesting room is the Royal Villa, which has 3 bedrooms and is the second largest water villa in the world. It's quite a bit more luxurious than the largest (located at Gili Lankanfushi Maldives Resort), so this might be the go-to choice for the rich and famous who want the ultimate in luxury and privacy too.
Viceroy Maldives is located in Shaviyani Atoll, 192 km north of the capital island of Malé and the International Airport.

The Spa at Viceroy Maldives experience is designed to allow each guest to reconnect to their Essential Self – the person they are when they are free of the stresses, imbalances and toxins of daily life.
Guests can arrange fishing trips out in the deep sea, at sunset or out at a deserted island, or embrace the adrenaline rush of windsurfing, waterskiing, kayaking, catamaran sailing, wake boarding and deep sea fishing.
To reach the Viceroy Maldives Resort you’ll need to fly to the main Malé International Airport in the Maldives. From there you’ll be met by hotel staff who will put you on a sea plane for the 50-minute flight to the resort itself.
Having just opened earlier in 2012, there aren’t many reviews of the Viceroy Maldives yet, but those that are there are mostly extremely positive. A couple do point out that a few things still need to be worked out, which is typical of these private-island resorts as they open, but even they also say the place is and will be amazing.
The service in particular gets rave reviews, for everything from the greeting to the fresh fruit in the villas each day. The villas are huge and luxurious according to early guests, so it looks like this is going to be one of the preferred resorts for the highest-end clients.
