If you are looking for the finest overwater resort in the world, you've arguably just found it. The Gili Lankanfushi Maldives (formerly known as Soneva Gili by Six Senses) features a total of 45 water villas in 10 different room categories. The resort isn't particularly luxurious in the sense that a Dubai resort might be, but the layout and privacy of the water villas are major reasons why this is where many of the rich and famous like to holiday in the Maldives.
Each water villa is huge, although much of each one is open-air, and only certain areas are air-conditioned. There is a “No News No Shoes” policy which encourages guests to relax and even go barefoot around the clock, but that doesn't mean this isn't an exclusive hotel. Probably no more than a novelty for most of us, the resort features what it calls a “Private Reserve” villa, which is the largest overwater villa in the world, by far, located even further out into the lagoon than the already-secluded Crusoe Residences. Some of the overwater villas feature a pool, while others don't, so you'll want to keep this in mind when choosing your room. In addition, there are land based rooms here as well.
The Gili Lankanfushi Maldives is located on Lankanfushi Island – its own private island, which is 12 kilometers north of the Malé International Airport in the Maldives.
*Speedboat return transfer from Malé Airport: US$93 per adult

The Meera Spa houses 6 overwater treatment rooms, a steam room, sauna rooms, an open air relaxation area, and an Ayurvedic Treatment Champa.
To reach the Gili Lankanfushi Maldives you’ll need to fly to the main Malé International Airport in the Maldives. From there you’ll be met by resort staff and put on a private boat for the 20-minute speedboat ride to the hotel’s island, at an additional charge.
Most systems don’t recognize anything over 5 stars, but if they did the Gili Lankanfushi Maldives would easily qualify. Reviews are exceptional and nearly 100% raving about every aspect of the resort. The rooms are enormous, the service is fantastic, the food is exceptional, and the setting is beautiful.
Honestly, you’ll have to look for a long time to find any less-than-wonderful reviews of this place, making it an ideal resort for a honeymoon or any other kind of secluded holiday. This is as good as overwater resorts get anywhere in the world.
