With 20 water chalets in a mangrove lagoon in northern Mozambique, the Flamingo Bay Water Lodge is the only resort of its kind in Africa. There are no other rooms so this is a fully overwater experience. The resort is especially popular with those from South Africa, but it's also a common stop for visitors looking for a bit of pampering and luxury at the end of an Africa safari visit to the continent.
Each water villa is quite large with a private balcony set over a calm lagoon that is very welcoming for swimmers. There is also a restaurant that is acclaimed for its sea food, plus a separate lounge for an evening drink or to just relax. Reviews are very good and the room rates are quite appealing for a boutique resort such as this, so it might be wise to book early since there are really no alternatives nearby.
The Flamingo Bay Water Lodge is no longer open and booking is closed.

Reviews for the Flamingo Bay Water Lodge are generally excellent, with nearly everyone citing the large and inviting guest rooms as a favorite. The food in the main restaurant also gets very good reviews from nearly everyone, though it is pointed out that most of it comes from South Africa rather than close by.
The only negatives are minor in that some warn that it’s important not to expect 5-star pampering, since this is more of a Robinson Crusoe experience (but with air conditioning). Many guests pledge to return again, which is very telling in and of itself.
