The most luxurious member of the El Nido Resort group, the Lagen Island Resort is a boutique eco-hotel in a breathtaking setting, with 18 overwater bungalows perched over a clearwater lagoon. There are garden rooms and beach rooms as well, and each is large and well built, but without some modern conveniences you might expect in a 5-star hotel.
This resort is extremely popular with previous guests, so the word-of-mouth business helps keep it booked up most of the year. The service is excellent and nearly every activity is included in the room price, so the Lagen Island resort offers better value than it might otherwise seem.
The Lagen Island Resort is located on the private Lagen Island just west of El Nido in the Philippines.
The outdoor spa hut has massages and other treatments available.
To reach the Lagen Island Resort you’ll need to fly to Manila and then take a short flight to the town of El Nido. From there you’ll get ground transportation to the jetty, and then a 20-minute ferry ride to the resort on Lagen Island itself.
Reviews for the Lagen Island Resort are so universally positive that it can even look suspicious, but it does appear the place is extremely well regarded by past guests. This is a somewhat basic “eco-resort” with few modern conveniences, yet the service and facilities appear to be superb based on the reviews.
One negative point that is brought up a few times is the fact that there is no actual beach that belongs to the resort, so those wanting to lay on the sand will have to go off the property, but otherwise the overwater bungalows and all the other rooms do get very high marks. Some also feel that the resort seems on the old side, which others may find to be charming.
