A small resort featuring 6 overwater cabins and 6 beach cabins, the Cosmic Crab Resort (formerly Careening Cay Resort) sits on Carenero beach with views of the water to the front and a lush jungle to the back. Representing true Caribbean flare, guests will find themselves surrounded by color and flash throughout the resort grounds from the on-site garden to the colorful restaurant and rooms.
Although each room is on the small side, guests have plenty of space to roam with 6 1/2 acres of landscaping and 600 feet of waterfront to enjoy. Suited for the adventurous type, guests will also find a nice selection of water sports to choose from, each suited to a different skill level and age. Each room offers views of the setting sun though most guests prefer to watch the sunset from the restaurant where they can enjoy a selection of different local Caribbean dishes .
The Cosmic Crab Resort is located on the island of Isla Carenero, an island a few minutes away from Bocas Town in Panama.

To reach the Cosmic Crab Resort you will first fly into Bocas del Toro International Airport. From there you’ll take a water taxi for about two minutes to the island of Carenero where you’ll then be taken to your overwater bunaglow.
To be honest, the reviews are all over the place. Some vacationers feel that the cabins are quaint, quiet and a great tropical escape. Others feel that the cabins are small, uncomfortable and lack sufficient storage space. With that said, most reviewers do feel that the owner and staff members were very helpful and knowledgeable about the surrounding area and were always available to help plan activities.
All in all, the overwater cabins seem fine for a small vacation on a budget, but not suited for those used to the lap of luxury. In other words, don’t expect these cabins to be honeymoon-style overwater bungalows, and you’ll probably like them.
