A widely known island, the beautiful oasis that is Tahiti attracts visitors from the world over, all of which are in search of one thing- an island escape. Luckily, an escape like this doesn’t have to drain your bank account. In fact, there are resorts on the island that offer luxury rooms at a more attainable price.
The InterContinental Tahiti falls within this category with luxury touches at every turn. These luxuries include a private beach, dining options right on-site, tennis, a spa, a gym, and diving centre.
The beautiful South Pacific island of Bora Bora is home to many great overwater resorts, including the famed InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa. This resort and spa combo grants visitors a beautiful room alongside many great resort amenities and nearby activities. Featuring the only all glass underwater restaurant in the entire world, it comes as no surprise that the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island Resort now also has an underwater room to showcase that’s been titled the Muraka. An underwater stay in itself is impressive enough for most, but not for the owners of the resort. They feel that every guest that books a stay in the Muraka should also experience a private flight to their own seaplane jetty, 4 butlers, a private chef, and an on-call fitness trainer among other amenities.
Though the Maldives are known for swaying palm trees, long stretches of white sand beach, colorful reefs, friendly locals and great dining options, the islands are also known for their overwater villa choices. With 4 and 5 star overwater resorts dotting the islands from north to south, east the west, it’s easy to find both comfort and luxury dressed with a touch of privacy. However, if you’re seeking a truly private experience and have the money to pay for it, you’ll want to skip all of the other resorts and instead focus solely on the Maldives Private Island at Voavah.
Set to open at the end of the 2018 year, the Hilton Curio Collection resort is currently under development in the beautiful Emboodhoo Lagoon in the Maldives. As the Maldives is a hot spot for vacation seekers, there are multiple resorts spread throughout the islands, most on their own private island, vying for your attention and booking.
The AVANI Sepang Goldcoast Resort opened in 2011 with much higher room rates and the early reviews were quite poor, but they have been getting steadily better ever since, and room rates are now very appealing for a “water villa.” So I booked myself 2 nights here as part of a short trip to Malaysia, after two nights in Kuala Lumpur.
The AVANI Sepang Goldcoast Resort has 392 water villas, which made it by far the largest such resort in the world until a nearby competitor called the Lexis Hibiscus Port Dickson recently opened with 522 water villas.
When most people think of overwater resorts, they instantly think of the Maldives or the South Pacific, but did you know that there are overwater bungalows in the Caribbean? The Sandals Royal Caribbean Resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica recently added 5 gorgeous overwater bungalows to their resort, with 12 more opening early in 2017, offering guests a chance to stay in Tahitian styled rooms while vacationing in the Caribbean. But if you think that you’ll never get the chance to stay here because of the high nightly rate, you’re in luck!
Newly opened, the Soneva Jani Residences Resort is designed to impress over and over again with rather large ‘rooms’ that are more homes than anything else. A stay at this resort emphasizes fun and adventure and is extremely kid friendly, making it a great option for those traveling with young ones in tow. All in all, guests will find 24 unique overwater suites to choose from, each styled and designed differently from the next.
Guests will also find a plethora of dining options, adventure activities both within the resort and close by as well as a few great resort features that allow you to wind down after a day of fun.
Set to open in November, 2016, the Sandals Royal Caribbean Resort is already proving itself a big hit with bookings placed into the months of 2017 well before its opening date. At first there were only 5 overwater bungalows to choose from, however, a recent announcement by Sandals details the opening of 12 new overwater bungalows with bookings available for those rooms starting the 1st of February, 2017.
These rooms will represent a different suite category, the Over-the-Water Private Island Butler Honeymoon Bungalows.
