After a successful opening of their overwater bungalows at their Sandals Royal Caribbean Resort in Montego Bay, Sandals Resort International is ready to do it again with the re-branding of their Sandals Whitehouse European Village & Spa into the Sandals South Coast. This resort will be the company’s second overwater bungalow resort in Jamaica.
The current beachfront property spans 50 acres within a nature preserve and offers guests land rooms to enjoy as well as a rather long list of amenities and features.
The Sandals brand is doing it again. After a very successful opening of their newly appointed overwater bungalows at their Sandals Royal Caribbean Resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica, Sandals is now almost ready to open up their Sandals Grande St. Lucian Resort overwater bungalows. At the moment, the rooms are available for booking, though guests won’t be able to stay in one until mid May. This news comes shortly after Sandals Resort International announced that they are in the planning and construction stages of their Sandals South Coast Jamaica overwater bungalows.
much speculation, Sandals Resorts have finally announced the dates when visitors are expected to be able to stay in their overwater bungalow suites, and unfortunately it’s quite a bit later than we had hoped. The folks at caribbeannewsdigital.com interviewed Sandals’ CEO recently who said that the groundbreaking on the 26 overwater bungalows is scheduled for August 15, 2012, and the opening to the public of the suites is February, 2013.
FEBRUARY, 2017 UPDATE: Sandals has opened 17 overwater bungalows at their Royal Caribbean Resort in Montego Bay and they have finally officially announced that the Sandals St.
Perhaps the most common question we get here at overwaterbungalows.net is: Are there any overwater bungalows in the Caribbean?
The answer is “yes” but until 2013 it’s still a bit of a disappointment to many. The fact is, all of the water bungalows in the Caribbean are down in Central America, and almost all of them are modest “eco-resorts” where there are few frills of any kind.
They are ideal for scuba divers and those looking for some outdoor adventures, but they aren’t perfect for most honeymooners and romantic travelers who want to spend time alone.
week we are highlighting what we think is the best-value over the water villa resort in the Maldives, at least in the lower price categories. The Hilton Maldives is actually a 5-star resort that tends to exceed the expectations of those prepared for a 4-star chain hotel.
As one of the larger resorts of its kind in the Maldives, the Hilton has a lot going for it for those who like a long list of activities and restaurant choices.
want to stay in an overwater bungalow or a water villa, you most likely are going to want to head to either the South Pacific (Bora Bora, Moorea, Tahiti etc) or the Maldives, which is just southwest of India. There are nearly 30 resorts with overwater bungalows in the South Pacific , and over 75 with water villas (as they are usually called there) in the Maldives.
this overwater bungalow of the week feature we like to mix in some good-value resorts with a few “fantasy” resorts that most of us couldn’t dream of ever affording. This week we are highlighting what most people consider to be the finest resort in the South Pacific – the St. Regis Bora Bora Resort.
This 5-star deluxe property has 77 overwater villas along with 14 island rooms, and none of them is likely to be available for under US$1,000 per night.
There’s no getting around the fact that overwater bungalows are expensive, and websites and brochures do the best job they can at showing things in their best light. But since they all make them sound so nice it’s hard to be confident that the resort you choose is as wonderful as it’s made out to be. For that reason we are collecting the best home-made video tours of every resort possible, so you’ll be able to see exactly what the rooms look like when real people stay there.
continuing series we are going to jump over to Asia, where they usually call these things “water villas” instead of overwater bungalows. The Maldives, which is just southwest of India, is actually home to about two-thirds of all the overwater bungalows in the world, and this week’s resort is one of many that offers fantastic value.
The Maldives is very popular with Europeans since it’s an easy overnight flight from anywhere in the region, but it’s a tougher sell for Americans since the flight even from Los Angeles will take an entire day.
Everybody loves photographs of overwater bungalows, especially the aerial shots that show all the rooms lined up over the turquoise lagoon, but obviously those don’t really tell you much about what it’s like to stay in these glorious hotel rooms.
The good news is that many guests are so thrilled with their bungalow that they’ve recorded guided video tours of them. There are 9 overwater bungalow resorts on Bora Bora itself, and I’ve collected the best video for each of them and put them below.
