Among the first luxury resorts on Bora Bora, the Sofitel Marara Beach as well as its Private Island brother across the lagoon are well located on (and just off) the southeastern coast of the island, which makes them convenient to visit other nearby shops and restaurants. These resorts are in the 4-star category, being much more reasonably priced than many of the 5-star counterparts that have been built more recently. From 2010 through late 2012, the two Sofitel Bora Bora resorts were run as one, but after renovations to the Sofitel Bora Bora Private Island Resort are complete, they are separate, although guests can still enjoy facilities of both.
Those wanting a tropical holiday in an overwater bungalow will find the Sofitel to be very good value. Rooms are large and the snorkeling just below can be spectacular. A free shuttle boat between the mainland resort and the Private Island resort means that those choosing the added privacy and seclusion of the offshore property can still get to nearby businesses and activities with ease.
The Sofitel Bora Bora Marara Beach Resort is currently closed.
The Sofitel Bora Bora Marara Beach Resort is located on the southeastern coast of the main island of Bora Bora, with the private island being several hundred meters offshore.
There is a spa on-site that offers a selection of massages to enjoy.
To reach the Sofitel Bora Bora Marara Beach Resort you’ll need to fly to Tahiti and then take a short 50-minute flight to Bora Bora. Once at that airport you’ll be met by hotel staff who will take you on a private boat to the resort itself.
The Sofitel resorts on Bora Bora were among the first of their kind on the island, and some guests report that the age does show a bit. Reviews do tend to be quite positive, but this set of related hotels does get more complaints and disappointed reviews than most in the area, though that’s to be expected to some degree since the price here is somewhat lower than most others as well. On that note, there are several guests that praise the staff at hand stating that they are both lovely and attentive.
